Scheduling of Continuous Media for Real-Time Sessions

چکیده
In multimedia DBMS, continuous media operations require constrained accesses to the storage system, which can vary unpredictably across users and application programs. To support real-time applications for continuous media, the storage system has to schedule the reservation of resources exclusively to guarantee time-dependent real-time retrieval, such as display. In addition, the system should provide seamless change of Quality-of-Services in a \real-time session." Real-time sessions consist of multiple real-time operations on continuous media (i.e., display , forward retrieval, backward retrieval), and provide unaaected transitions between those operations. This paper describes a storage system for concurrent continuous media accesses and scheduling algorithms which guarantee that rejecting the transition of operations will never occur during execution of manipulation operations for continuous media.

New generation of wireless networks, LTE and WiMAX, supports many services which consume a lot of resources (such as VOIP, Video Conference, Digital Video, Multimedia streams and online Multi-player Games). Supporting multi-media services in wireless communication systems provide new resource allocation challenges. Because of high loads in downlink, efficient resource allocation is vital in dow...
متن کاملExperience with Real-Time Mach for Writing Continuous Media Applications and Servers
This paper describes the experience with Real-Time Mach for writing a network server and a storage server which are suitable for handling audio and video, and a video-on-demand system on these servers. Audio and video are commonly referred to as timing-dependent continuous media. Programming interfaces and resource management policies of current operating systems should be changed for handling ...
متن کاملScheduling Analysis of the Micro Channel Architecture for Multimedia Applications
In recent years, fixed priority real-time scheduling has made significant advances. These advances have been applied primarily to CPU scheduling. While CPU scheduling is an important aspect of real-time designs, other shared system resources require the same attention in order for a system to transfer real-time traffic. This paper addresses one such resource, the system bus, and presents a meth...
متن کاملResource Scheduling in Enhanced Pay-Per-View Continuous Media Databases
The enhanced pay-per-view (EPPV) model for providing continuous-media-on-demand (CMOD) services associates with each continuous media clip a display frequency that dependson the clip’s popularity. The aim is to increase the number of clients that can be serviced concurrently beyond the capacity limitations of available resources, while guaranteeing a constraint on the response time. This is ach...
متن کاملOperating Room Scheduling Considering Patient Priorities and Operating Room Preferences: A Case Study
Operating rooms have become the most important areas in hospitals because of the scarcity and cost of resources. The present study investigates operating room scheduling and rescheduling considering the priority of surgical patients in a specialized hospital. The ultimate purpose of scheduling is to minimize patient waiting time, surgeon idle time between surgeries, and penalties for deviations...
